Welcome to RPG
Stage 1. Getting Started
Roleplay, or "RP" is to assume the personality and appearance of your own character, and, in threads and/or chat, write your own story about them! However with the help of other people, who are assuming the role of other characters. It's a bit like writing your own warriors book, only you are interacting with other characters, and can make it more fun! In RPG, you do not know whats going to happen - you may be in control of YOUR character, and it's part of the story, but others will add twists and turns that make it all together more interesting.
For example, on a chat, it might be like this:
Seawhisper: Tigerwing, I..I'm going to have kits..
Tigerwing: Kits?! Oh Sea,Darling! That's Wonderful!
Seawhisper: No, no, you...you don't understand..
Tigerwing: Don't understand what, my love..?
Seawhisper: They..they aren't your kittens..
Tigerwing: no..no..NO! Please! Oh please, StarClan, no!
See? Now, if you were taking on the role of Tigerwing, and your mate came out with that, you 1) wouldn't be expecting it. 2) Could make the plot more interesting and 3) it adds wonderful drama, that will twist and turn and make you excited to come online!
This is how Roleplay works!
Some RPG terms
Some basic terms in RPG
RP: Role Play. That's the game, folks. Also known as an RPG, or a Role Play Game. PM: Stands for Private Message. OOC: Out of Character. When you are talking to other players or about yourself, to make it easy for people to realize you write this. Powerplay: This happens when somebody else, without permission, controls somebody else's character. This isn't permitted, as it's making them do actions that the characters Roleplayer wouldn't actually do! It's unfair and cruel, and will result in banning from LQ after your 3 strikes are up! Godmodding: This is when your character or another character is invincible, has special powers, or basically an unfair advantage over others. It's not permitted on LQ, as it's unfair and dosen't really give others a fighting chance! You need to make every cat have a weakness! It's how RPG rolls people.
WHO A R E YOU?What will your cat look like? Act like? Be like? ![How to RPG - Warrior Cats [LQ Lunastar's Quest] How to RPG - Warrior Cats [LQ Lunastar's Quest]](http://image.wetpaint.com/image/2/KPeC_BN9n6W0eXtPW3f0Mg37441/GW450H100)
Now then, I'd never dream of making pre-made bios for you, other than in the adoption centre of course, but for you Newbies out there, here's a small RPG-masters guide to making the perfect character! Written by non other and moi, the great Luna, teehee, who has hands (or should I say paws?) down experience in Roleplaying on Warrior RPG sites x3
It's IN t h e NaMe...
The name of the cat you wish to play, also depends on
position, for example, all apprentices must be __PAW and all kits __KIT, etc.
Make an interesting, but unique name, anyone can play Firefur, or Leafpelt, be ingenious! Make something
strange like Dancingflame or Racingwind! Make sure no one else plays a cat with that name; it causes
complications and upsets people. Remember, the name can often tell a lot about that character, for example, Snakeclaw, the name snake implies the saying "A snake in the grass" as in a traitor - which the character actually is! Remember these things, as it's a cunning way of giving clues. If yournames taken, look it up in Latin, or some other language! Luna is actually Moon in Latin, though Moonstar is incredibly common and boring, I managed to name myself Lunastar, therefore, nicer name, same meaning! Remember these little tips!
FrOm Blank CANVAS to MaSterPiEce
What the character looks like, fur color, length, eye colour. Does you cat have feathery whiskers?
Long legs and claws? high-set ears? Pink nose? tabby markings, spots, stripes or solid colour? have
fun and be creative. NO unusual colour though, like vivid pink or lime green. Please don't steal others descriptions!
It's mean, and people will get upset with you. Have fun and breathe life into the canvas! Paint a mental image for all
those around you! Saying "A ginger cat with blue eyes" is ok, but it's much better as "Strinkingly handsome, dark ginger tom, with soft, mid-length fur, and bright, dazzling blue eyes, long claws and legs, lean and strong with feathery whiskers" Doesn't that sound much more appealing? Also, add to your characters history and appearance, with battle scars and markings! For example, Snakeclaw, who I am using as an example throughout this article, has a very prominent, dark scar running along both his shoulders from his time in CrowCan. This makes your characters distinguishable, and more recognisable!
THe MakE - up OF my s o u l
What is your cat like? Stubborn? Snappy? Smart? Kind? Sweet? gentle? have fun and mix around
with your cats personality! Don't make the kind cat who everyone loves, or the pure evil traitor who wants to destroy the clans, make a happy medium, like a kind cat with a snappy attitude! Be creative and have fun. Don't steal anyone elses personalities though, if someone makes and unusual/creative character, don't go making a cat just like them, because it will loose you respect. Make up your own fresh ideas - don't copy.
To SHE or NoT tO s h e? ?
An obviously important detail! Is your character a tough tom? or a sweet, motherly she cat? Most of the time, the she cats come across as the gentler, more nurturing type, whilst the male acts as the protector of her and kits. This isn't always the case keep in mind! Sometimes you'll have a wimpy, pathetic tom (Snakeclaw x3) or a brave, fierce she cat (Lunastar x3) remember to have fun mingling personality, description, and gender into your character!
The SANDS of TiMe Are f a l l i n g
You don't have to add this, but its worth thinking about! Remember, the older a cat is, the more experience it will have! Most people make young cats, and then make their powerful fighters - think about it first! making a strong, senior warrior with many moons more experience is going to be a better fighter than some small, newly made warrior. Don't make leaders about 12 Moons old either - it dosen't happen. Also, please don't make apprentices or worse still, KITS capable of killing a cat! Lastly, a cat cannot have kittens until it is at least 12 moons (toms) and 15 moons (She cats) as they don't even reach sexual maturity until then, so no making apprentices pregnant please, it's unrealistic and people will only complain about it.
DestINY's PaTh IN l i f e
Here is where you decide your role in the clan; this role will effect how you RPG with your character. For example, a kit can't really do much, so you'd have to stay in the nursery and RP for the first few days. Your characters age by how many threads you post. Your kit will never grow up if you do not post as it! Apprentices are fun to play, as they have little experience or care for the warrior code, and are still old enough to fight and cause a bit of trouble. Warriors; need I say more? People like to play warriors because they are in the thick of the action, can mate and have kittens, can be made deputy, and more, but its not always the best position! Remember, elders need to be played! And believe it or not, elders are one of the most fun to play! Then can still put up a fight, get to boss apprentices around, tell stories and advise the leader! I want to see more elders played on LQ! Medicine cats - ah, well this is a very important topic! People don't take the role seriously; they usually are inactive! Medicine cats need to be very, very active, otherwise, the clan cannot function!
They need to heal wounds, and receive signs from Starclan. Its also very hard! We can't have EVERY Med cat falling in love people! A few plots like Snake x Rabbit, perhaps, but if every Meddy starts running off with mates to have kits, then its going to get boring, so please, try and keep the forbidden love to the plots already made (SnakexRabbit as an example) Please don't take on the role of Med cat lightly! We don't want about 6 Meddys in each Can! So try and keep it as one meddy and their apprentice. When the apprentice receives their name, they do NOT become the medicine cat - they remain as apprentices until their mentor joins starclan, though they have their name.
The PAST c a n Haunt THE L i v i n g
Ok, lets face it, every cat has to have a background. Don't make it to extreme please, like whole family killed by a badger, and you an abandoned kit who had to fend for themselves; it's been done, it's boring, and it doesn't happen very often. Be more creative. For example, I shall use Snakeclaw - His family background is perfect for RPG, not to complicated, and over-the-top: His father was a traitor; Wolfsong, and his mother an AC warrior - Sparkletalon - his mother, gave him up to Wolfsong's sisters, Bella and Weasel who lived in CrowCan when Snakekit was born, because Wolfsong had left the Can, and Sparkle didn't want him to grow up teased by the other kits. She never told him. Snakeclaw grew, into a fine CrowCan warrior, raised by his psychopathic aunt Weasel ,and Bella. His father expected him to be just like him; cruel, ambitious, and worthy of leadership. When Snakeclaw failed to kill an AmberCan warrior (Gingerwing) He was considered a deep disappointment and a disgrace, simply because killing wasn't in his nature. He tried his hardest to be a murderer, but couldn't do it. When he met Rabbitwhisker, a CrowClan prisoner, he fell in love with her cheer, brightness and strong belief. As you can see, it's not over the top, no one dies but I still managed to make it sad! If you can do this, you will be far more respected than making EVERYONE in your cat's family die in a tragic accident! Remember that and be clever!
EyEs Are t h e WINDOW to thE SoUl
Ok, I already went into this in description, but I feel it should be put in detail; eyes are the window to the soul, or so they say so make sure your eyes are perfect! Nothing strange, like bright red, or purple. Make them a colour like; Dark blue, Pale blue, Pale amber, Dark amber brown, Dark green, Light green, gray, gold ect. Don't just put "Pale blue eyes" Put something a little more mystical, like "Dazzling, frosty pale blue eyes with flecks of golden amber" See? Much more beautiful! Remember though, cats with blue eyes are more likely to be deaf, whilst Albino cats (White with pink eyes) often have eyesight problems, so think before you make a character like that.
Amber, brown, and green are the most common colours.
StAnD out IN a c r o w d
Again, I've spoken about this in descriptions, but I want to extend it. Fur colour usually helps with name, for
example, a black cat might be knows as Shadowfur, or Blackpanther, or something along those lines. A ginger cat; Firepelt, or Flametail. Remember genetics too, when breeding characters - If a black cat and a white cat have kittens, they will most likely be black ,white, or black and white kits. However, if the mother's father was dark ginger, you might get a ginger kit, or ginger + Black, Ginger + White, or even Calico. Remember these things! Also, don't have boring, plain fur, have patterns!
Like spots, flecks, stripes, tabby, or patches! Go wild!
